Background and Education

Dr. Christi Abernathy grew up in North Carolina and Virginia. After attending Old Dominion University and receiving a BS degree in Dental Hygiene, she worked in general and periodontal practices in Virginia and Georgia. After 10 years of dental hygiene practice and with encouragement from the dentists she had worked with, she decided to attend dental school at Medical College of Georgia. After graduation, she moved to Asheville, NC and opened a private practice that catered to fearful patients and included 50% pediatric and hospital cases. In 2010, she left Asheville to move to Morganton, where her husband, Gary was born and raised. She has been associated with Morganton Children’s Dentistry since that move. Dr. Abernathy has always had an interest in community and public service, which is evidenced by her connections with Broughton Hospital, J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, Buncombe County Health Department, and her multiple medical mission trips to Haiti.
