What is a Root Canal?
A root canal may be prescribed by our dentists when the pulp of your tooth has become infected or inflamed. This type of damage might occur due to extensive decay or exposure from a cracked or chipped tooth. This procedure is done to save the damaged or dead pulp in the root canal of the tooth by cleaning out the diseased pulp and reshaping the canal. The canal is then filled with gutta percha, a rubberlike material, to prevent recontamination of the tooth. The tooth is then permanently sealed with an implant or a crown which enables patients to keep the original tooth.
Should I Be Nervous about Needing a Root Canal?
While a root canal has become synonymous in our vernacular with a painful procedure, there’s good news for patients who are prescribed this treatment. Techniques for performing a root canal as well as modern pain management practices, including sedation dentistry, have come a long way in recent decades. Our dentists have extensive experience with root canal therapy and utilize state-of-the-art equipment and materials to maximize efficiency and patient comfort.
