How Does Invisalign® Treatment Work?

Invisalign® teeth straightening is achieved by using a series of clear, plastic aligner trays that are comfortable and completely removable. These aligners are made with 3-D computer imaging technology which allows them to fit your teeth precisely. The aligners are also designed so that tooth movement occurs gradually and gently over the course of treatment, without people even noticing it is happening. If you’re interested in Invisalign® and curious about the different steps in the treatment process, learn more below.

Step 1 – Meet With Your Doctor

The first step to receiving Invisalign® treatment is to determine a doctor. While this may seem like a simple step, it is important to choose a doctor with considerable experience in treating patients like you with Invisalign®. This is because the dentist has to take precise measurements and create photographs and impressions of your smile, which are necessary for creating an effective treatment plan.

In addition to reading reviews, check out your potential provider’s Invisalign® tier level. Southern Dental Associates is proud to be an Invisalign® Gold Provider.

Step 2 – Get a Sneak Peek At Your New Smile

Using the iTero Element® scanner, your Invisalign® Doctor can take a fast and precise 3D digital scan of your teeth and map out a custom treatment plan just for you.  Although you won’t get the aligners at this appointment, you will receive photos and impressions of your unique treatment plan.

Step 3 – Your First Fitting

The next step is to place your first set of custom-made, state-of-the-art aligner trays. This is a key step in your success. Your doctor will ensure your aligners fit well, answer your questions, and let you know what to expect with your treatment.

Step 4 – Start Wearing Your Aligners

You should wear your Invisalign® aligners between 20 and 22 hours a day. Otherwise, your teeth won’t move according to schedule. While you may feel some slight discomfort when you first wear Invisalign®, it’s important that you continue wearing your teeth aligners as directed by your dentist.

Step 5 – Regular Doctor Check-Ins

Your doctor will guide you to schedule face-to-face check-ups every few weeks to check your progress and pick up the next batch of aligners. Your aligner trays should feel comfortable and fit well. If they do not fit quite right, talk to your doctor.

Step 6 – Continue Your Daily Routine

Your Invisalign® aligners are virtually transparent and easy to take out, so you can keep brushing and eating as you normally would. Just make sure to remove the aligners and brush them before putting them back. If you follow your doctor’s instructions, you can expect your teeth to move about one half millimeter each month through Invisalign® treatments. You will gradually move from wearing aligners that cover all of your teeth to a set of aligners that only covers the few teeth you need to straighten next.

By following these simple steps, you can expect your Invisalign® treatment results to be a great new smile!

Step 7 – Keep Your Brand-new Smile Beautiful

You transformed your smile with the world’s most advanced clear aligner system. now it’s easy to keep the smile you love. With a Vivera® retainer after your treatment is complete, you can maintain your straight smile for a lifetime.
